Overnight Pavement Marking Removal and Installation Silver Spring Drive: Lake Drive to Lydell Avenue

The Village successfully applied for and was awarded three (3) DOT safety grants to improve roadway safety for motorists, pedestrian and bicyclists throughout the Village.   The first project included the replacement of the traffic signal at the intersection of Silver Spring Drive and Bay Ridge Avenue.  The second project entails safety improvements at 14 intersections throughout the Village, as well as improvements to Silver Spring Drive and the replacement of the traffic signal at its intersection with Santa Monica Boulevard.   In summer, 2020 the third project will include several safety improvements along Lake Drive.

LaLonde Construction, under contract of the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, will be performing over the next several weeks existing crosswalk pavement marking removals along Silver Spring Drive as part of this current safety project.  This work will entail water jetting the existing crosswalk paint off of the pavement, creating construction noise.  This will allow for the repainting of the crosswalks, stop bars, parking stalls and yellow safety striping.   The contractor will utilize highly reflective epoxy paint for increased visibility and safety.

The contractor has requested to be able to procced with this water jetting and painting work during overnight hours (8:00pm-6:00am) for the following reasons:

  • Eliminate paint removal and painting related vehicle traffic backups
  • Eliminate MCTS bus service interruptions and delays (2 routes)
  • Eliminate need for road lane closures and detour implementation
  • Increased safety for the workers, pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists
  • Eliminate numerous day time parking stall closures
  • Eliminate the impact on all adjacent businesses

The Public Works Department staff understands the inconvenience that this project creates for you and greatly appreciates your patience and understanding.   Please be careful, slow down and pay extra attention when driving around this and all construction zones.
